Serving Manitoba’s Equine Community

By Carolyn Lintott, Acting ED, MHC

Any organization is only as strong as the people in it. We are pleased to honour some of our exceptional 2016 Manitoba Horse Council members.

Good teaching is the core strength of our sport. Everyone, from recreation enthusiasts to high performance athletes, benefits from excellent coaching.

Coach of the Year: Danae Martin

Danae has been a powerful influence on many levels. She works tirelessly in the development and implementation of high coaching standards for the sport.

Her coaching ability shows clearly in her results. She consistently has students who achieve High Point Awards.

“Danae is excellent at setting you up for success and has many tools in her coaching toolbox to get you to where you want to be in your competitive riding!”

High praise indeed – and well deserved!

Horse Professional of the Year: Kelly and Bonnie Campbell

Campbell Horse Shows are highly professional, well organized, and genuinely committed to the horse community. Their special attention to beginning riders is having a very positive impact on the sport. Part of their registration fees have been contributed to Breast Cancer Research.

Junior Athlete of the Year: Nicole Goritz

Nicole is a young athlete involved in Show Hack, Hunter, and English competitions in the Arabian world. She has achieved top 6, Reserve Champion or Champion status. At the Canadian nationals she was in the top 10. She shows strength of character in competition, using her experience to improve.

Volunteer of the Year: Deborah Shepherd

As District Commissioner, Regional Chair for Manitoba, and Regional representative for Canadian Pony Club, Deb Shepherd has shown an incredible enthusiasm and dedication towards providing equine opportunities for Pony Club youth. She runs an annual week-long Pony Club camp, and was a key person behind the Pony Club Nationals held in Manitoba. Deb is hard working, energetic, encouraging - and a tremendous voice for young equestrians.

Manitoba Horse Council (MHC) is the recognized governing body for equestrian sport in Manitoba, providing support, leadership and resources to develop athletes and protect the interests of Manitoba’s equestrian enthusiasts.
