Six horses stolen from a farm southwest of Edmonton, Alberta have been found safe and returned to their home. The Cameron family at Thunder Valley Ranches in Wetaskiwin County had discovered six of the family’s horses missing on the morning of Thursday, December 7, 2017, and were devastated by the loss.

The horses were stolen during the night of December 6.

Cornelia Cameron, the family member who discovered the horses missing, received a phone call on December 12 from a man at a local gas plant who had seen what he thought were the missing horses roaming loose on a back road between Buck Lake and Rocky Mountain House. She headed over to have a look, and found all six animals grouped together in an unfenced area.

“As soon as I pulled in I knew it was them and I was just crying and shaking at the same time,” she said. “I was overwhelmed with joy. It was so nice to see them.” There were no obvious signs that the horses were mistreated.

The Cameron family is immensely relieved to have their horses back home safe and sound. They are grateful to everyone who helped spread the word about the theft.

The Breton RCMP are continuing to investigate the theft. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP livestock inspector at 403-701-1462, Breton RCMP at 780-696-3502, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
