November 1 – 3, 2019
By Jasmin Carlton, SAVT Executive Director
This year marks the Saskatchewan Association of Veterinary Technologists’ 35th year as an association. We hope you can join us as we celebrate at our Annual Conference, AGM and Trade Show this November 1 to 3, 2019 at the Saskatoon Inn and Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, SK. The SAVT Conference is Saskatchewan’s largest continuing education event for Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVT) and the largest gathering of RVTs on the Prairies!
Attendance at last year’s inaugural Animal Welfare Afternoon on Friday was so overwhelming, we will be offering it again with all-new speakers and topics. Our Friday evening Welcome Reception, Registration, and Tradeshow are a focused opportunity to network with industry representatives and socialize with colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere. Our Marketplace tables are a great place for a little retail therapy and to get a head start on Christmas shopping. Attendees interested in connecting with potential employers are encouraged to bring a current resume and connect with clinic representatives in person at the Job Fair.
Not only is this weekend vital to the continued development of RVTs, it is just as important for the other hard-working staff with whom they work. New this year we have added an all-day communication track that is aimed at the entire veterinary team. We are encouraging all staff members to attend and take this important information back to your practice.
Saturday’s attendees can look forward to hearing up-to-date information on companion animal behaviour, nutrition, chemotherapy safety, dermatology, wellness, and much more. Saturday’s festivities continue into the evening with our 35th Annual Banquet and Awards and conclude with Entertainment provided by Dueling Pianos group Burn N`Mahn. Hands-on labs and interactive workshops will be held at the WCVM’s state of the art facilities on Sunday. The line-up includes sessions on food animal reproduction and parasitology, equine first aid and and sedation, just to name a few. A complete CE line up, including presenter biographies, can be found on the conference area of the SAVT website.
Registration is now open and is taken online at the SAVT website. All RVTTC members (members of a provincial Association) are welcome to register at the RVT Member price but are required to set up an account with SAVT. Many of our sessions and wet labs have a limited number of seats available and sell out extremely quickly. It is strongly recommended that registrants set up an account with SAVT in advance, double check login information, and be sure to register early to get the sessions they are hoping for.
Our conference would not be possible without the continued dedication of our sponsors and supporters, which include our Diamond Sponsor Royal Canin and our various other sponsors that include Canadian Horse Journal.
