You may be an avid fan and practitioner of natural horsemanship, or perhaps you’re looking to learn more about natural training methods. In either case, Clinton Anderson’s Downunder Horsemanship TV offers an informative step-by-step demonstration of his methodology.

Born and raised in Australia, Anderson is a top reining and working cow horse competitor, as well as a world-renowned and exceptionally popular natural horsemanship trainer. He relocated to the US in 1997 and has been conducting clinics across the country ever since. Anderson is also the first trainer and clinician to have begun his own television show about horse training which was originally shown on RFD-TV.

The Downunder Horsemanship TV program consists of 13 episodes following the retraining of a three-year-old Thoroughbred ex-racehorse gelding, Tricky. The series demonstrates Anderson’s expertise in working with difficult horses that require remedial training.

Anderson begins Tricky’s retraining process in the round-pen, where he works at desensitizing the sensitive gelding and gaining the horse’s trust. Tricky’s ground training also includes facing an outdoor obstacle course and such natural barriers as streams. Facing such challenges under the direction of the handler develop a horse’s confidence in his trainer.

Anderson then moves on to work under saddle, demonstrating the best way to safely and humanely gain the horse’s respect and expect his obedience. This portion of Tricky’s retraining features exercises requiring the gelding to stop, go, and bend. Under Anderson’s firm but patient guidance, the gelding quickly becomes a calm and respectful riding horse who trusts his rider whether he is worked in the round pen, arena, or out on the trail.

Whether you are in the process of retraining your own horse or simply wish to gain insight into an effective method of training, Anderson’s Downunder Horsemanship TV program has plenty of information and helpful tips to offer.
